Sterren Beurs - Documentation

Sterren Beurs is a great program for your Palm OS device where you can keep track of the latest action at www.sterrenbeurs.nl. With the Sterren Beurs program you can:

• Automatically download your www.sterrenbeurs.nl star portfolio.
• Download the latest star prices.
• Get the biography and a picture of all your favourite stars.
• Download the latest news that will allow you to make informed purchase/sell decisions.

The best thing of all is that you can do all this either at each HotSync operation or via a mobile phone wireless connection.

Installation

Windows: Run the program SterrenBeursInstall.exe on your PC and then do a HotSync. If your computer is behind a firewall, click on the HotSync icon in the Windows taskbar, select "Custom", double-click on Sterren Beurs, go to Network and enter your proxy settings. If you do not know what to enter here, it is best to ask your network administrator.

Mac: Use the Palm Install Tool and install SterrenBeurs.prc on your Palm OS device. On the Mac you will not be able to take advantage of the HotSync update.

The first time you run Sterren Beurs on your Palm OS device you will be asked to enter your sterrenbeurs.nl username and password. You can change it at any time by selecting "Gebruikersnaam" from the menu.

Internet Update

There are two ways to update Sterren Beurs:

- Via your desktop computer's internet connection each time you do a HotSync. Fo this you must run SterrenBeursInstall.exe on your computer and you must have setup your proxy parameters if you are behind a firewall.

- Via an Internet-enabled mobile phone with a GPRS or dialup connection. Your Palm must already be set up to connect to the internet via your mobile phone in order to use this feature. Consult your mobile operator to see if you can do this with your subscription. You can find some sample instructions here.

Main screen

The main screen shows the stocks in your portfolio from the www.sterrenbeurs.nl web site.

Watched stocks: In addition you can also watch stocks which are not in your portfolio. These are stocks that you have an interest in but have not purchased yet. Stocks that are watched are indicated by a dot next to their current price (2nd column) and do not count in the portfolio totals.

When the folder on the bottom left corner of the screen is open, you are looking at owned and watched stocks. When the folder is closed, you are looking at stocks that you have sold and do not own anymore.

Displays the internet update screen where you can see by own much your portfolio has changed during the last internet stock update (via HotSync or wireless). You can also select to perform a wireless update (NOTE: you must have an internet-enabled mobile phone!).

Tap to see all the alerts that have been defined in the program. Turns red when there is an alert that is active.

Tap to add a watched stock. As the stock symbol, you have to enter the star's decimal code (and not the SMS code). You can find the decimal codes in the news section under the header "Coden".

Displays the portfolio charts: bar charts show the asolute portfolio values, pie charts show the portfolio values with respect to each other and line chart show the portfolio values changing over time.

News: Sterren Beurs downloads the most recent news items, announcements and game info at each internet update. Tap on the news section at the top of the main screen to display them. In the news section you will also find a table with all the star's decimal codes in case you want to enter a watched stock.

Stock info

Tap on a stock to see its details.

Shows the stock's buy parameters - buy price, number of shares and date. For watched stocks you only need to enter the star's decimal code (and not the SMS code). You can find the decimal codes in the news section under the header "Coden".

Shows the latest prices from the internet - current stock price, previous day close and change.

Displays the star's biography and picture (note: pictures will only be downloaded through a HotSync operation).

Displays the historical stock chart for the star. Sterren Beurs will save one set of values in the chart database per day. You will have to wait a few days before you see any charts appear.

You can define here any number of stock alerts.

If you are looking at a sold stock, you can see on this screen the stock's buy and sell parameters.

Other

From the menu you can choose to sort your stocks in different manners. You can also select if you want the up/down arrows from the main screen to display the change of the stock today or the change since the last internet update.

If you have problems with the wireless internet update, check your network log (from the network menu) to see what went wrong. If the server was momentarily down, try to update again a few minutes later.
